FC Barcelona to face Atlético Madrid in Copa del Rey semi finals

FC Barcelona found out this Wednesday who stands between them and a place in the Copa del Rey Final in Seville on 26 April.

And it's Atlético Madrid, who they will play over two midweek legs with the first to come at the Estadi Olímpic on Tuesday 25 February, kick off 9.30pm CET, and the second to come on Wednesday 2 April, also at 9.30pm CET, at the Metropolitano. 

Last time in semis too

Curiously, the last time these two clubs crossed paths in the cup was in the same round. That was in 2016/17, when Barça won 3-2 on aggregate by first winning 2-1 at the Metropolitano and then securing passage to the final with a 1-1 draw in the Catalan capital.

Just one goal conceded

As they were not involved in the Spanish Super Cup this year, Atlético started their cup campaign much earlier than Barça. They were in Catalonia for their first game, a 2-0 win at Vic, and then went to Extremadura to defeat Cacereño 3-1. That was the only time in the competition that they have conceded a goal thus far, for they followed that up with a 1-0 win over Marbella, and then comfortable 4-0 and 5-0 victories against second division Elche and the only first division side they have played until now, Getafe.

Barça and Atlético have already met once this season, in La Liga at the Estadi Olímpic, where the red-and-whites emerged victorious 2-1.
