Barça Atlètic 0-3 SD Ponferradina: No luck

A defeat to start the return set of fixtures, as Barça Atlètic went down 0-3 to SD Ponferradina. The goals proved tough blows for the blaugranes who were unable to make the most of numerical advantage after Sibille was sent off just after kick-off. Pedro Soma's red card levelled things up at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, after which Ponferradina scored a further two goals.

Two sending offs and a goal

SD Ponferradina dominated the stats at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, both in terms of cards and chances. The visitors' liveliness and the unrest on the home side's bench was to be expected after Ponferradina's Sibille went in hard on Unai early on, receiving his marching orders from the referee. Being one down seem to embolden the side from Castilla y León, who tested Kochen twice before scoring their third chance.

The luck was definitely against Barça Atlètic in the first half, which came to a head with a red card for Pedro Soma. The sides had even numbers before the break once again, but despite Dani Rodríguez's best efforts, the blaugranes were unable to even up the score.

Visitors extend lead

Albert Sánchez's continued to try to break through, with Toni Fernández prominent in attack, but neither he nor Mbacke could beat the visitors' keeper. Ponferradina were playing on the counter, and that's precisely how they doubled their advantage, a quick transition with just a quarter of an hour of the match left to go. A tough blow for the blaugranes who continued to ply away.

The game was only going one way and even more so when the visitors extended their lead further in the 90th minute. So, a loss for Barça Atlètic and also an end to their five game unbeaten run. Next up, another league game away to Ourense on Saturday 25 January (5.00pm CET).
