Kevin-Prince Boateng: eight games against Barça and two fine goals

The German born former Ghanian international hit highs and lows in his meetings with his new club

Kevin-Prince Boateng is now an FC Barcelona player. However, with his previous clubs he faced the blaugranes on no less than eight occasions; six as an AC Milan player and two during his time with Las Palmas.

His first ever meeting with Barça came at Camp Nou in an AC Milan shirt. The versatile forward’s evening was restricted to just 33 minutes as he was forced off due to injury in the 2-2 draw in the 2011/12 Champions League group stage.

In the return fixture in Milan Boateng scored his first ever goal against Barça. Josep Guardiola’s team ran out 3-2 winners that night but the rossoneri midfielder gave a glimpse of his talent with a wonderful strike for the Italian side.

That same season the two clubs came face to face again in the quarter finals of the same competition. A 0-0 draw in the first leg and a 3-1 win in the second saw Barça through with Boateng substituted in the second half of both encounters.

Barça comeback

The two rivals met again in the Champions League the following season, 2012/13. In the first leg of their last 16 tie, Barça went down 2-0 in the San Siro with Kevin-Prince Boateng again scoring a wonderful goal. At Camp Nou on another famous European night, a Jordi Roura led Barça turned things around with a 4-0 win: disappointment for Boateng but delight for the blaugranes.

The two most recent meetings between Boateng and Barça came during his season with Las Palmas in 2016/17.  Luis Enrique’s team came out on top on both occasions with a 5-0 win at home and a 4-1 win away in Gran Canaria, two games in which the new arrival played all 90 minutes.
