Glasgow City FC 0-3 FC Barcelona: Quarter finals yet again!
The Barça women’s team are safely through to the last eight of the Champions League after winning 3-0 at Glasgow City, making for an aggregate scoreline of 8-0 following the win at the Miniestadi that had hinted that the trip to Scotland might be little more than a formality.
Indeed it was, although coach Fran Sánchez was taking no risks and fielded a more or less full strength team.
With her national manager Phil Neville in the Petershill Park stands, Toni Duggan scored a goal in each half. The first was a fine finish off an equally impressive assist from Andrea Pereira and the second was a nice piece of control following an Andressa Alves cross.
In between, Alexia Putellas got the other in the first attack after the break. It was a game where the Catalans were vastly superior to the home side and probably deserved to win by an ever wider margin.
It also brought the debut of 18-year-old Candela Andújar as a second half substitute.
And so to the quarter finals of Europe’s premier club competition for the fourth year in a row. Barça will be joined in the draw on November 9 by Slavia Prague, Chelsea, Lyon, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, VfL Wolfsburg and LSK Kvinner of Norway.
