41 Liga games unbeaten at Camp Nou
Saturday’s 4-2 victory against Sevilla means that Barça have now gone for a stunning 41 consecutive league games at the Camp Nou without losing once.
Not since going down 2-1 at home to Alavés in September 2016 has anyone managed to beat the mighty blaugrana on home turf.
That’s a run that began with 1-1 draw with Atlético Madrid when Luis Enrique was in charge and that has extended throughout the entirety of Ernesto Valverde’s tenure. 33 wins and eight draws. Magnificent.
Topping the Dream Team
So the current team have now gone one better than Johan Cruyff’s Barça did in their famous run almost a quarter of a century ago. After 34 wins and 6 draws, Barça suffered a shock home defeat to a fellow Catalan side, bottom-of-the-table Lleida.
But there’s still a long way to go before beating the club’s all-time record. Back in the era when Cruyff was still playing, from game 25 of the 1972–73 season until game 21 of the 1976–77 season, Barça went a staggering 67 league games without losing at home.
So just 25 more to go. Let’s do it!
