BIIK Kazygurt – FC Barcelona: Comeback needed at the Miniestadi (3-1)
FC Barcelona Women lost the first leg of their Champions League Round of 32 tie at BIIK Kazygurt (3-1). Although the visitors dominated possession, the locals took advantage of the few dangerous moments that they had in the match.
Bárbara Latorre had the opening chance, her shot turned away for a corner. Fran Sánchez’s team took control with Andressa Alves and Toni Duggan also both going close but without reward. For their part, the hosts were very direct and physical.
Late goal
During the final minutes of the first half, Myasnikova was rushed to hospital in an ambulance after an awkward fall, and once the game resumed, in the sixth minute of time added on, BIIK got themselves on the scoreboard.
Immediately after the break, the home team again surprised Barça to lead 2-0. With Claudia Pina as the centre-forward and Toni Duggan to the left, the visitors went in search of that elusive away goal, but on the hour, a counterattack saw Barça fall further behind (3-0).
Differences cut
Duggan finally saw her effort and endeavour produce a goal in the 66th minute, but that was to be the end of the scoring. The return will be played on September 26 at the Miniestadi (6.00pm CEST)
