FC Barcelona Women v Santa Teresa CD: Goal-fest in home debut (6-0)
FC Barcelona Women opened their home account in style after defeating Santa Teresa CD 6-0 on Sunday afternoon.
After the 4-0 away win against Granadilla Engatesa last week, Barça continued in the same attacking mentality at Ciutat Esportiva.
It did not take long for Xavi Llorens’ side to get off the mark. After just 15 minutes, Alexia Putellas made it 1-0 after latching onto Jennifer Hermoso’s pass.
Provider turned scorer moments later when she headed in Marta Unzué’s pinpoint cross. And it did not take long for Unzué herself to get on the scoresheet from a well-worked corner.
Olga Garcia made it 4-0 before the break, with Jennifer again involved with her second assist of the match. The Badajoz outfit had a few attempts on goal to narrow the deficit but Sandra Paños stood firm in the Barça goal.
There was no sign of Barça taking their foot off the gas in the second half, as it was 5-0 on 46 minutes. Alexia returned the favour to Jennifer by providing a fine assist for last year’s league top scorer to score her second of the game. Unzué, the captain, wrapped up proceedings with her second and Barça’s sixth.
The next league match is also at home against Real Sociedad where Llorens’ team will be looking to make it three for three. More news here
