FC Barcelona B v Villarreal B: Late goal earns third straight win (3-2)
FC Barcelona B marched to their third successive victory of the new campaign with an epic 3-2 victory over Villarreal B at the Miniestadi on Saturday evening.
The visitors took the lead early on, but goals from Nili, Cardona and Xemi continue Gerard Lopez’s side’s perfect start to the season.
Pau handed Villarreal the lead from a corner after just four minutes played, which stunned the home faithful. The goal seemed to spring Barça into life as Cardona, Perea and Aleñá began to get more involved.
Shortly after Jose Súarez had spectacularly denied Carlos Martinez, Barça were level through Nili after a fumble from Cantero.
The match maintained its high rhythm in the second half. Barça were handed some good fortune just before the hour mark as Perea’s free-kick deflected off the boot of Cardona to give his side the lead.
On 64 minutes however, the visitors responded. This time, Súarez would be helpless to deny Martínez for a second time and the Yellow Submarine were level.
Mujica replaced Cardona, who picked up an injury in the build-up to Villarreal’s leveller, and imposed himself on the game quickly.
Barça never gave in and, in the final minute, were rewarded for their persistence and belief when Xemi connected superbly with Alfaro’s corner to guide the ball into the net for a dramatic 3-2 win. More news here
