Paco Alcácer: 'Joining FC Barcelona is a step forward in my career'
Paco Alcácer, FC Barcelona’s sixth signing of the summer, was officially presented by the Club on Thursday following his move from Valencia.
Shortly after stepping out onto the Camp Nou turf, the 23-year-old held a press conference where he fielded a variety of questions from the media about his move.
“Joining Barça is a step forward in my career,” Alcácer said when asked why he left the Mestalla for the Camp Nou.
“For me it is a great experience to play with the likes of Luis Suárez, Leo Messi and Neymar Jr,” he said, while also mentioning that “being alongside past teammates makes the adaptation process easier,” a reference to the likes of Jordi Alba, Jeremy Mathieu and André Gomes, who he knows well from his Valencia days.
About finding a spot in the lineup, the Spanish international is aware that he faces stiff competition but is more than happy to play various roles to help the team: "My main position is centre-forward but I have played in a number of positions, and if have to play out wide, I will."
Alcácer says he is aware that Luis Suárez is the best striker in the world and that it will be an honour to play alongside him.
“I will do everything I can to make the most of my opportunities,” he vowed, before adding: “When the chance to play for Barça comes along, it is a chance that you cannot turn down.”
