The day Messi surpassed César
The Argentine took over as the club’s top scorer of all time with a hat-trick against Granada four and a half years ago
Leo Messi will always have fond memories of facing Granada at the Camp Nou as, four years ago, the star Argentine put three past the Andalusians to become FC Barcelona’s record goalscorer.
César, a legendary striker from the 1940s, held the record with 232 goals but in 2011/12, Messi would be the player to finally beat that record in a 5-3 thriller against Granada, who visit Camp Nou on Saturday (8.45pm CET).
Of course, Messi did not stop there. Four and a half years on, with Granada back in town, Messi has almost doubled César’s record with 467 goals to his name. A quite stratospheric sum.
