Agreements of the Board of Directors
FC Barcelona's Board of Directors, who met this Monday 7 November in an ordinary session at the Camp Nou, discussed the following issues:
Appearance at the CAS
The Board of Directors were informed about the club's legal representatives' appearance at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). They were in Lausanne, Switzerland, this morning at the appeal hearing against the UEFA sanction for the display of Catalan independentist 'Estelada' flags. The sanctions are in reference to last season's Champions League games against Bate Borisov and AC Roma. Other games in this competition, in which the flag has also been present, have only ended in UEFA opening a file on them without adding other sanctions.
FC Barcelona have reiterated the right to freedom of expression on behalf of their members and fans and have argued that the flags are not offending anybody. The club have emphasised the need for UEFA's rules to evolve along the assumption that the right to freedom of expression is allowed as long as it is done in a peaceful manner. During the appeal, which lasted three and a half hours, the Court showed an interest in the historical development of these symbols at the Camp Nou.
The proceedings at the National Court
The Board of Directors have decided to appeal against the interlocutory judgement made by judge José de la Mata in Madrid. He has proposed that the National Court open an indictment against the player, Neymar Jr, his parents, expresident Sandro Rosell, president Jose Maria Bartomeu, and the club as a juridical person. This is in the context of the lawsuit interposed by the investment fund DIS because of the signing of the Brazilian player.
The board expressed its surprise and total disagreement with this development and its reasoning, especially taking into account the same magistrate's decision to dismiss the case last July and no action took place against the president Bartomeu. If the judicial action starts, FC Barcelona will maintain the innocence of those who are being investigated.
10th anniversary of FCB Foundation and Unicef alliance
In the context of celebrating this ten year long relationship between the FCB Foundation and Unicef, the board has agreed to go ahead with various acts on the 19 November. The same day as the Barça v Málaga match at 4.15pm CET. In the next few days the FCB Foundation and Unicef will expand on the details of these acts.
Members' Solidarity Day
The board has agreed the 6th edition of the Members' Solidarity Day on the 21 December, on the same day as the return leg of the Copa del Rey round of 16 between FC Barcelona and Hércules CF. The previous five editions have enabled close to 300,000 children and teenagers linked to social programmes to experience a game at the Camp Nou. This is thanks to the solidarity of the season ticket holding members and the board has called for another massive effort to make the day a great success once again.
