Four FC Barcelona players — Messi, Neymar Jr, Suárez and Iniesta — on shortlist for The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2016 award
The FC Barcelona players Leo Messi, Neymar Jr, Luis Suárez and Andrés Iniesta are among 23 candidates that have been shortlisted for The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2016 award.
The list was announced Friday by the FIFA Football Committee. Online voting also began Friday and ends on 22 November.
If you'll recall, the same four Barça players are also among the first set of nominees for the Ballon d'Or award.
Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, the Barça manager Luis Enrique Martínez was among 10 nominees for The Best FIFA Men’s Coach 2016.
The voting formula gives 50% weighting to votes from national team captains and coaches, with the other 50% coming from online voting open to the public plus the votes from over 200 journalists.
The winners in the Men’s and Women’s categories, in addition to those for Best Coach and Best Goal — the Puskás Award — will be announced at the FIFA Gala on 9 January, 2017.
