13th time in a row into the last 16 of the Champions League
The victory at Celtic Park allows FC Barcelona to claim their place in the last 16 of this season’s Champions League. Furthermore, the win allows FC Barcelona to claim top spot in Group C and make sure that the blaugranes will be in the draw for the next phase of the competition.
It is the 13th time in a row that Barça have reached this stage of the Champions League, a run that began under Frank Rijkaard in the season 2004/05. Once again the blaugranes will be one of the teams in the draw for the last 16 which this season will take place on 12 December.
Thanks to Barça’s win in Scotland and the draw between Borussia Mönchengladbach and Manchester City in Germany, the blaugranes reached the last 16 as group winners for the 10th consecutive season, a run that began back in 2007/08. In the final game of the group the blaugranes will host German outfit Gladbach at Camp Nou on 6 December.
A brace from Leo Messi at Celtic secured Barça's place in the next stage of the competition with the blaugranes on 12 points, four ahead of the current second placed team Manchester City. As such, Barça will be seeded in the draw for the round of 16 for the 11th time in the last 13 seasons.
