Gerard Piqué: 'The most important thing is to be ourselves again'
Gerard Piqué spoke about the difficult period FC Barcelona is going through during an event at a padel court, which was also attended by ex-Barça captain Carles Puyol and the nº1 in the World Padel Tour rankings Fernando Belasteguin. After the event Piqué spoke to the assembled media and explained how “the most important thing is to be ourselves again.” “We will look for solutions to turn this around,” added the Barça defender.
Gerard spoke of how “the team is aware we are not in our best form at the moment but the important thing is that we were able to get the three points against Leganés.” Sunday’s game (highlights, report) at the Camp Nou turned out to be harder work than expected and Barça’s number ‘3’ assured everyone that the side is "capable of playing the way we want to and the way which has brought us lots of success.”
"I have no doubt in my mind that we will compete until the end in the Champions League"
Piqué added: “We are still in three competitions. In the Champions League, although we are in a difficult situation, we will compete until the very end.” Moreover, the Catalan player spoke positively about his coach, Luis Enrique, saying: “the team has won eight out of a possible ten trophies under his management.”
On the subject of the league table, the blaugrana promised the first team players would fight until the end. “We are confident in our ability to do well and, more than winning matches, the key is to recover our game, which is what us players and the coach are fully focused on achieving.”
Finally, Piqué contextualised the difficult moment Barça are going through: “The team has won the Spanish Supercup this summer, has qualified for another Copa final and together we have achieved some great victories over the last few years.”
