RCD Mallorca v FC Barcelona U19A: Lacking the finishing touch (2-0)

The blaugranas were not able to secure a positive result at RCD Mallorca's home ground where only two sides have managed to win all season

The U19A side lost only their third game of the season in Saturday’s game against RCD Mallorca (2-0). The home side, who are fourth in the table, came into this match on a run of five undefeated games at home and they were ruthless in front of goal in securing this win against the Barça U19A team. In spite of the defeat, Gabriel Garcia’s side stay top of the table with five fixtures left to come.

The blaugranas’ movement created opportunities in front of Pocoví’s goal but Barça were unable to make the most of them. The home side were punished soon after when Gerardo Bonet scored the opener in the 14th minute. This was harsh on Barça and they picked fought hard to get back into the game. However, the U19A side couldn’t find the back of the net and a Pablo penalty doubled Mallorca’s lead in the 55th minute (2-0).

Barça were unable to turn this score around in what was left of the match despite their insisitence in attack. Mallorca were well-drilled and pressed high up the pitch making it difficult for the blaugranas. A positive from the match was the debut of new arrival, Uruguayan defender Santiago Bueno.

Focused on the UEFA Youth League

The defeat at the Citutat Esportiva Antonio Asensio, where only two sides have managed to beat Mallorca, will provide extra motivation for the team to produce a performance in the UEFA Youth League. The European competition pits Barça against Oporto in the quarter finals on Tuesday 7 March at 6.00pm CET at the Miniestadi.
