Leo Messi has enjoyed some great nights at the Santiago Bernabéu over the years and with the latest edition of the biggest club fixture in world football around the corner, it’s the perfect time to look back at a story that started in 2005, when Ronaldinho was the hero, but was accompanied by a young star-in-the-making from Argentina, who two years later would be scoring the first of two hat-tricks against Real Madrid.
Messi’s 21 goals make him the highest scorer in the history of the game, followed by Alfredo Di Stéfano with 18.
And 12 of those goals were scored in the Spanish capital, including a brace in the famous 6-2 victory, the corker that practically saw the Catalans through to Wembley in 2011 and the three in that extraordinary 4-3 win three years ago.
