Ernesto Valverde: ‘Nothing is impossible’
Barça coach Ernesto Valverde remains optimistic ahead of the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid. In his appearance before the press ahead of the game in the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday at 11.00pm CET, the new boss reiterated that “nothing is impossible,” in light of their 3-1 deficit from the first leg in the Camp Nou.
“We maintain our idea of going there and winning the game and taking the title, we are not beaten. In spite of the fact that it will be tough, we have a chance and we will go for it,” added Valverde.
With the danger their opponents pose on the break, the coach warned of the challenge his team face. “We have to go forward but also control their counter attacks, they are specialists in that,” he said.
Valverde also cast his mind back to the first leg: “During the game we did well but in the end, with that push to attack, we left ourselves open a little and that’s where the game was decided.”
Finally, the coach was asked about the Club’s latest signing. “Paulinho is an important player in his national team, he is technical, strong and powerful. We don’t have a player like him in the squad and he gives us some versatility in that department.”
