Leo Messi and Luis Suárez call for optimism
FC Barcelona’s Leo Messi and Luis Suárez came out on social media this Monday to spread a message of optimism among followers that in the wake of Sunday night’s setback at home to Real Madrid.
Both strikers agree that it’s time to turn the page and start focusing on mounting a Super Cup comeback at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday night.
Speaking on Instagram, Messi said that “it was a bad day, but we need to get back up and carry on. This has only just begun.”
And the Uruguayan’s sentiments were similar when he asked fans on the same network to “always be strong, positive and forward looking-“
Messi extends record
The two players were on for all 90 minutes of the first official game at the Camp Nou this season, and both were involved in Barcelona’s solitary goal. Suárez won the penalty and Messi made no mistake from the spot.
That extends the latter’s record as the all-time leading goalscorer in the competition with thirteen, six of those against Real Madrid.
All in all, Messi has scored 24 goals against the all-whites (and that’s not including the one in this summer’s Miami friendly). That’s more goals than anyone else can claim to have scored in over a century of Clásicos.
