Ernesto Valverde and Barça a perfect five for five in La Liga

A 6-1 rout of Eibar at Camp Nou on Tuesday night means the first-place Catalans have scooped up all 15 points in play in La Liga this season

With Barça's 6–1 triumph over Eibar on Tuesday night, Ernesto Valverde became the ninth manager in club history to open a La Liga season with five wins in a row. The victory keeps Barça perfect at the top of the standings with 15 points.

Barça is also way out in front in terms of goal-differential, having scored 16 goals while surrendering just two. Here’s a look at the results thus far (home team listed first):

Week 1: Barça 2, Betis 0
Week 2: Alavés 0, Barça 2
Week 3: Barça 5, Espanyol 0
Week 4: Getafe 1, Barça 2
Week 5: Barça 6, Eibar 1

Three wins away from tying record

Barça’s all-time club record for consecutive wins to open a league season is eight, and it came at the beginning of the 2013-14 season under then-manager Tata Martino, whose team put up similar numbers through five games, including an identical +14 goal differential. Here’s a look the next four opponents Barça will need to beat in order to tie, and eventually break, the record (home team listed first):

Sept 23: Girona vs Barça
Oct 1: Barça vs Las Palmas
Oct 14: Atlético Madrid vs Barça
Oct 22: Barça vs Málaga (Date and time TBC)

Here’s a look at the other eight managers, besides Valverde**, who have won at least five in a row to start La Liga, along with the length of the streak:
