A night of recognition at Camp Nou
Camp Nou experienced a night that recognised the sensitive current political situation that exists in Catalonia. FC Barcelona unfurled a banner of the Catalan flag, (la Senyera) accompanied by the word ‘Justice’ in both Catalan and English. Aside from this initiative on behalf of the Club itself, other banners were also seen at the game against Sevilla in the Gol Nord area in support of those Catalan politicians who were recently imprisoned by the national authorities.
From the 5th minute of the game, cries of “Freedom, Freedom” were heard at many moments during the game. The great majority of those present at Camp Nou made clear their opposition to the imprisonment on Thursday of eight former members of the Catalan government removed from office by the central government in Madrid under the terms of Article 155 of the Spanish Constitution; Oriol Junqueras, Meritxell Borràs, Dolors Bassa, Raül Romeva, Joaquim Forn, Josep Rull, Jordi Turull and Carles Mundó. Also in custody remain the presidents of the independence supporting bodies of Òmnium Cultural, Jordi Cuixart and of the Catalan National Assembly, Jordi Sánchez.
