The Messi-Iniesta connection at Stamford Bridge
The connection between Leo Messi and Andrés Iniesta has made history again. The Argentinian got the equaliser on Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge and the goal came off a wonderful assist from the first team captain. It was a goal that broke a ‘curse’. After 730 minutes of trying, Messi had finally scored against Chelsea, and in doing so set things up nicely for the return leg at the Camp Nou.
It wasn’t the first time the duo had combined when needed most at the London stadium. On the magical night of Iniesta’s late goal to send the blaugrana into the 2009 Champions League final, the roles had been reversed with Messi as provider.
Iniesta had already assisted Messi twice this season, and 36 times in total since they’ve been playing together. And the Argentinian had set up nine goals for his captain.
