Messi and Suárez form Europe's top strike partnership this year
The partnership between Leo Messi and Luis Suárez is synonymous with goals, and the duo were on the scoresheet once again in the LaLiga game against Girona this past Saturday. A brace for Messi and a hat trick for Suárez led the team to a 6-1 triumph at the Camp Nou, and keep the pair at the summit of the top scorer charts with 22 and 20 goals, respectively. Incredibly, together they have found the net more times than 16 Primera División teams this season.
This term, the two strikers have 10 braces and 2 hat tricks, as well as Messi scoring four goals past Eibar. They also occupy prime positions in the FC Barcelona all-time top scorer rankings: The Argentine is the club's most prolific marksman of all time, with 537 goals in 622 matches, and Suárez is sixth (144 goals in 183 games).
Europe's most potent partnership in 2018
2018 has started with a bang for the Barça pair, who are currently the most free-scoring duo of the year so far in Europe's top leagues. They have 24 goals between them in all competitions. Closest to them are PSG's Neymar and Di Maria (21 goals), Manchester City players Agüero and De Bruyne (18 goals), and Real Madrid's Ronaldo and Bale (18 goals).
Gunning for the Golden Shoe
Both Messi and Suárez are previous winners of the European Goldan Shoe award, and have the prize in their sights this season. They are pursuing Harry Kane and Edinson Cavani, who currently head the standings.
