Bumper crowd creates wonderful derby atmosphere at Camp Nou
Barça v Girona attracts 85.417 spectators to the stadium in a wonderful advertisement for everything that is good about football
Saturday’s game against Girona certainly lived up to the occasion. The first ever edition of what was billed as the ‘new’ Catalan derby drew a massive 85,417 spectators to the stadium, the biggest crowd for a league match this season.
In fact, the only bigger attendance this year has been the 89,514 that came to the Spanish Super Cup match with Real Madrid.
The fun started long before the first ball had been kicked, with activities for fans of all ages outside the stadium, including face paints, photo calls and a drum parade.
And once inside, Barça fans were in for a treat, with seven goals in all, and six of them scored by the boys in blaugrana, to set a new club record of going for 32 Liga games without defeat.
