Messi: 'Barça the only club I'll play for in Europe'
Leo Messi, who is currently with the Argentina squad as they prepare for this summer's World Cup, spoke to Canal 13 in a recent interview and gave several quotes of interest to FC Barcelona fans. These included confirming that he would never play for a side who could face the Blaugrana in continental competition.
"I'm more and more certain that Barça are the only club I'll play for in Europe," he said. "In Argentina, I'd like to play some games for Newell's Old Boys, as since I was little I've dreamed of playing at their stadium, El Coloso."
The Barça star also reflected on the departure of Andrés Iniesta: "Football will miss him and I will miss him. He's a unique player and difficult to replace," said Messi, before talking about Argentina's chances of lifting the World Cup this July.
"I have a lot of faith in this group. We are working very well and we have players who are very capable and experienced. However, we have to take things calmly."
Suárez: “Every player dreams of being able to play in the World Cup"
His teammate and good friend, Luis Suárez - himself on international duty with Uruguay-, also spoke this week, in a press conference, stating that "Every player dreams of being able to play in the World Cup."
He continued by expressing a desire for Liverpool player Mohamed Salah, injured in the Champions League final, to be fit in time for the summer competition.
"You are never pleased when a colleague gets injured, and especially in a game like that. It's difficult to be in his situation. I want the best players to be available, to show that Uruguay are the best. I'd love for him to recover and be able to enjoy the World Cup," said Suárez.
