Carles Rexach

Born in Barcelona in 1947, Charly (also known as the Pedralbes' boy) is a veritible institution at FC Barcelona where was a player and also a coach

Son of the Barcelona breeding ground he played right wing with an exquisite technique, and stood out for his great dribbling, his excellent game vision, his masterly penalty throws and his free kicks.

However, he has on occasions been criticised by his fans for his apparently excessive sang froid. With 672 matches he is one of the players at the Club with most appearnces in its history.

The Club paid tribute to him in a testimonial at Camp Nou on 1 September 1981.  Later he had a long spell amongst the coaching staff, firstly in the youth set up e and then as assistant to Luis Aragonés (1987-88) and Johan Cruyff (1988-96, the glorious years of the ‘Dream Team’), before finally becoming coach himself in the 2001-02 season, a difficult time for the Club. From 2010 he has been a presidential consultant at the Club.
