2008: Schalke 04
The first meeting between Barça and a German side came in the 2007/08 season against Schalke 04. A side coached by Frank Rijkaard won 1-0 in Gelsenkirchen thanks to a strike from Bojan Krkic. The return leg at Spotify Camp Nou saw a victory by the same scoreline with Yaya Touré's effort giving Barça a 2-0 aggregate win and a place in the semi-finals.
2009: On the road to the treble
The following season Barça came upon a German side, this time the mighty Bayern Munich. In the first leg at Spotify Camp Nou Pep Guardiola's Barça side scored twice in the opening 12 minutes on the way to a 4-0 win at home. In Munich the side played out a 1-1 draw which saw Barça through to the semi-finals and an eventual Champions League final victory in Rome over Manchester United.
2020: Forgettable night in Lisbon
Five years ago, in the midst of the COVID pandemic, the quarter final was played over one leg in Lisbon. A Bayern Munich side coached by Hansi Flick delivered an 8-2 win for the Germans who would go to lift the trophy, beating PSG in the final in Portugal.
