FC Barcelona's quarter final opponent to be decided on Wednesday

FC Barcelona will play either the French or German club in the next round, depending on the outcome of their game on Wednesday

FC Barcelona are through to the quarter finals of the Champions League thanks to their 4-1 aggregate win over Benfica. But they will have to wait until Wednesday to know who'll they'll be meeting next. It will either be Lille or Dortmund, who are meeting in the north of France at 6.45pm CET.

Last week's first leg in Dortmund ended 1-1, leaving everything to play for in the return match in Lille.

Dortmund: Familiar foe

Barça have played plenty of big games with Dortmund over the years, including a meeting in the League Phase of this very edition. That game at Signal Iduna Park in December was a lively one, eventually won 3-2 by Barça with a brace from Ferran Torres.

Before that, the most recent game between the sides was in 2019, also in the group stage, albeit in the old format. The game in Germany ended 0-0, while Barça won 3-1 at the Camp Nou.

Lille: First meeting

In contrast, Barça and Lille have never met in a UEFA competition before. But the French club are not to be taken lightly, having finished seventh in the League Phase on the back of impressive results such as a 1-0 defeat of Real Madrid and a 3-2 win away to Atlético Madrid.

The quarter finals are to be played in April, the first leg on Tuesday 7 or Wednesday 8 and the second leg a week later on Tuesday 15 or Wednesday 16.
