Spanish Super Cup first trophy of Flick era
The Hansi Flick era at FC Barcelona is really under way with a first piece of silverware for the German coach. The Spanish Super Cup is Barça's after wins over Athletic Club and Real Madrid, a second win in a Clásico this season for Flick.
Ninth trophy, first with Barça
The Super Cup is a ninth trophy for Hansi Flick as a coach. His first came in 2001 as Hoffenheim boss and then came seven more between 2020 and 2021 as Bayern Munich coach. Now, after six months in the job, he has claimed his first piece of silverware with FC Barcelona after a start to the campaign that has already seen memorable wins over his former club Bayern Munich (4-1) and away at Real Madrid in La Liga (4-0).
After a brief wobble in the league before the Christmas break, Flick's Barça side have bounced back in the New Year with a trophy and a desire for more titles in 2024/25.
Six wins in six finals
Flick is quite the specialist in finals. Up to now he has won all six in which he has coached - most memorably the Champions League final win over PSG with Bayern Munich in 2020. Other wins have come in UEFA Super Cup final with Bayern against Sevilla, and in the World Club Cup against Mexican side Tigres, also with the Bundesliga team.
On the domestic front with Bayern he has also won the German Cup with a win over Bayer Leverkusen and the Super Cup with a victory over Borussia Dortmund. Now, with the win over Real Madrid, that run is now extended to six finals.
