Elena Fort addresses the current situation of FC Barcelona in an interview with RAC1
This morning, the vice-president of FC Barcelona, Elena Fort, was interviewed by Jordi Basté on the program “El Món a RAC1". During the conversation, she addressed several key current issues at the Club, including the financial situation, strategic projects and priorities of the Board of Directors.
Regarding the CSD's precautionary measure, Fort explained that, for the time being, the Club has no official record of the decision on the precautionary decision of the Superior Sports Council (CSD), but has expressed confidence that it will be favorable. “We are confident that this resolution will follow the line of what we believe is right for the Club and our interests,” she said, highlighting the rigorous work carried out by the legal services of FC Barcelona.
Regarding the management of registrations and compliance with Financial Fair Play, the vice-president stressed that the Club has acted strictly in accordance with the guidelines of the supervisory body. “The renewal of the contract with Nike is a crucial step forward that should allow us to achieve the 1:1 rule,” she explained. This rule is key to ensuring the Club's sustainability within the LaLiga regulatory framework.
She also highlighted that changes in requirements on the part of LaLiga, especially in recent weeks, have complicated the process. Even so, the Club had been working on other operations for months to have alternatives in case of unforeseen events.
Along these lines, the operation related to VIP lounges, Elena Fort wanted to clarify that this initiative is not a decision taken at the last minute. “This project was already approved by the Executive Committee in mid-October. What we have done now is to accelerate its execution to guarantee the necessary revenues for the Club,” she said.
The vice-president also gave details about the operation: “Barça has reached an agreement to have a marketing product in which buyers pay the money that Barça already had planned for these seats and sell them the rights to operate these seats.”
During the interview, Fort also took the opportunity to take stock of the Board's main achievements since its arrival in 2021. Among the highlights, she listed:
- To have saved the Club from an imminent disappearance that threatened its viability.
- Promote the construction of the new Spotify Camp Nou, an emblematic project for the future of FC Barcelona.
- Ensure that the Club remains the property of the members, preserving its historic and democratic model.
- Recovering the 1:1 rule within the framework of financial Fair Play, a crucial step to ensure economic stability.
- Balancing the Club's finances with an ordinary positive operation for the first time in years.
Regarding Spotify's return to Camp Nou, Elena Fort explained that, although there is still no return date, the Club is working to make it during this season. “We have been explaining at every moment and in each phase what the situation was. Obviously there have been imponderables that have caused the first forecasts to have deviated, and we will explain it, but we will return,” said the club's vice-president.
Regarding the possible penalties for delay, Elena Fort said: “The penalty for delay is there, but all situations will be analyzed at the end of the works and at that time we will assess whether they can be charged to the construction company or not to claim them”.
