Leo Messi: 'Barça look spectacular'

The blaugrana legend has words of praise for the current squad, especially the youngsters from La Masia

Barça legend Leo Messi has cast his eye over the current FC Barcelona squad and the upcoming 125th anniversary for the Club. The Argentina had nothing but praise for Hansi Flick's current team and also took the time to listen to the three songs that are candidates to become the FC Barcelona anthem for the 125th anniversary.

The interview comes from the documentary series 'El nou clam' from Catalan TV station TV3 and is a teaser of the full interview which is to be broadcast on Thursday 28 November.

"I think the current Barça team looks spectacular and it is not a surprise. Giving opportunities to young players is nothing new. When  you show them confidence they respond because they know the club better than anyone, they are used to it," said Messi about the squad packed with La Masia graduates.

"When they have players around them then good things happen, as it did in our time," added the former Barça number 10.

The words from the Argentine superstar did not go unnoticed and blaugrana boss Hansi Flick responded in his press conference on Friday ahead of his team's La Liga clash with Celta on Saturday. "It's an honour for Leo Messi, the best player in history, to praise Barça. We are delighted he is following the team and it means a lot to us that he acknowledges the young players' contribution to the squad," said the German coach.

The man who brought untold happiness to the fans during his record breaking spell as a Barça player confessed that he misses Catalonia and Barcelona. "My children are Catalan. I have lived most of my life there and I feel like I am from Barcelona. It's always on our mind to return there to live because my family and I all miss it," concluded Messi.
