Ronald Araújo and Ian defend children’s rights

To mark World Children’s Day on 20th November, the FC Barcelona Foundation have made a video to raise awareness of the situation the world’s most disadvantaged children find themselves in, to put the spotlight on children’s rights and to make society aware of the importance of working day in day out for their wellbeing..  

This year the leading roles in this video fell to Ronald Araújo, a men’s first-team player at FC Barcelona, and Ian, a nine-year-old boy with leukaemia, who was also able to make a wish of his come true - in the shape of a tour around the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper accompanied by one of his sporting heroes. Ian, as can be seen in the video, is a big football fan and a loyal Barça supporter. During the course of his visit, he was also able to meet Barcelona’s first-team head coach Hansi Flick and Pau Cubarsí, another of his idols.

In the video, Ian and Ronald Araújo read out a number of children’s rights, with the goal of emphasising the right of all children to health and a decent life, to be protected from all forms of violence and discrimination, and to preserving their lives in conflict situations, like those taking place around the world at this time.

Since 2004, the FC Barcelona Foundation has been carrying out projects, both in Catalonia and various other countries, to improve the lives of children living in very vulnerable and high-risk social situations. To achieve this, it uses sport as a tool for change and social inclusion.
