64 year old record equalled
Barça have started the second in great form and on Wednesday in Belgrade Hansi Flick's team recorded their third consecutive Champions League game scoring four goals or more, equalling a record from the 1959/60 season.
After stuttering against AS Monaco in their opening fixture in this season revamped competition, the blaugranes have beaten Young Boys 5-0 and Bayern Munich 4-1, both at the Estadi Olímpic. On Wednesday they followed that up with a 5-2 win away in Serbia against Crvena Zvezda. The win against the Swiss side Young Boys came thanks to two goals from Lewandowski, strikes from Raphinha and Iñigo Martinez and an own goal.
Against Bayern Munich a memorable performance from the blaugranes against Hansi Flick's former team Bayern saw the take a 4-1 win. Another former Bayern man, Robert Lewandowski, was on the scoresheet and Raphinha netted his first ever hat-trick for Barça.
Precedent from 1960
With the five goals against Crvena Zvezda, Barça completed a trio of consecutive games scoring four goals or more in Europe. The last time that happened was back in the 1959/60 season with a squad that contained legends such as Kubala, Luis Suárez and Ferran Olivella. That year the blaugranes scored five against AC Milan in a 5-1 win in the second leg of the European Cup last 16, going on to win 4-0 at home and 5-2 away against English club Wolverhampton Wanderers in the quarter finals, reaching the semi finals after scoring 26 goals in 8 matches.
