President Joan Laporta has contacted three of the Valencian towns most affected by the DANA to offer them support and direct assistance
The president of FC Barcelona and the Foundation, Joan Laporta, has made direct telephone contact with the mayors of the Valencian towns of Paiporta, Benetússer, and Catarroja, located in Ground Zero of the DANA storm damage, to express his solidarity on behalf of the club and its Foundation and offer direct collaboration and financial support for the reconstruction of basic facilities and social services in the coming weeks and months, based on the identification of specific needs.
The aid will be channelled through the FC Barcelona Foundation and its own funds, and will focus on specific projects for the reconstruction of essential services. Additionally, various fundraising initiatives will be launched, such as the auction of jerseys signed by the players during their match against RCD Espanyol, along with other iconic items of interest to Barça fans. In the coming days, information will be provided on the included products and the method for bidding in this charity auction.
FC Barcelona and its Foundation greatly appreciate the overwhelming solidarity and requests for individual initiatives that the club has received. However, it is heavily emphasised that to ensure the support is as effective as possible, it must be channelled through the expert organisations in situations like those currently being faced, namely the Red Cross, Caritas, and Food Bank.
Statement by Joan Laporta
“In these very difficult times and on behalf of FC Barcelona and our Foundation, I want to express our deepest support and solidarity, and convey hope and warmth to the people who are suffering so much from this disaster.”
“As president of FC Barcelona, I believe that, as a club, we can be of help in these moments by serving as a voice among our supporters to channel aid to the organisations working on the ground, and by providing financial support for the rehabilitation of essential social and educational facilities, as I have already communicated directly to some of the most affected municipalities."
