Fermín staying until 2029
FC Barcelona and Fermín López have reached an agreement to extend the player's contract through to 30 June 2029. The young midfielder's buyout clause has been set at 500 million euros.
Pen was put to paper this Thursday at midday in the company of Barça president Joan Laporta; first vice-president Rafa Yuste and director of sport Anderson Luis de Souza "Deco".
Blaugrana future
Fermín oozes character and exquisite skills, and he just gets better and better. This season he has made six competitive appearances, sadly limited because he was out for seven games with a muscle injury. He came into the present campaign after a busy summer in which he won Euro 2024 and and Olympic gold with Spain, being one of the biggest stars at the latter with his six goals.
But Fermín's breakthrough season was 2023/24, when he played no fewer than 42 competitive fixtures at club level, scoring 11 goals and quickly establishing himself as an automatic first choice starter, a far cry from the previous year on loan to lower league outfit Linares Deportivo. Following an excellent series of performances preseason, coach Xavi Hernández was convinced that the player had everything it takes to play a regular role in his first team plans.
Since 2016
Fermín joined La Masía in 2016/17 as part of the U14A team. He rose up the ranks to the U19A team in 2021, winning La Liga and the Copa de Campeones before his spell at Linares Deportivo gave him much-needed playing time and experience. With 12 goals and 4 assists at the club back in his native Andalusia, he was clearly destined for bigger things. Very big things indeed, as it turned out, and much quicker than anyone probably expected!
