Barça Academy Querétaro opened

Sergi Barjuan has the honour of inaugurating the second soccer school in Mexico

In early July, FC Barcelona announced the creation of the second Barça Academy in Mexico, located in Querétaro, following the one in Mexico City, which began operations in January 2020. The official inauguration has now taken place, attended by Sergi Barjuan, former player and manager and now sporting director of Barça Academy, who officially launched the academy.

The Querétaro project began with the creation of regular camps in 2017, which served as a learning experience to take a further step in the development of football players, both boys and girls, in Mexico, a country with a rich football tradition. Together with local partner Catalunya Sports, the decision was made to establish a Barça Academy 200 km from Mexico City, the nation's capital.

Top rate facilities

The boys and girls at Barça Academy Querétaro train in high-level facilities, with two natural grass 11-a-side football fields at the Cumbres International School Querétaro. Sergi and other Barça staff who travelled to visit the site were able to witness firsthand the enthusiasm for being part of the Barça Academy, a programme aimed at boys and girls with the primary goal of providing comprehensive training for its pupils. The goal of these soccer schools is to expand the Barça brand and transmit the club's work philosophy and values to the rest of the world.
