Reus 0-1 Barça: Super Cup champions!
The Roller Hockey Super Cup is blaugrana for the third year in a row as David Cáceres' team kick off the 2024/25 season in style. After a 5-2 win over Liceo in the semi-finals, the blaugranes were made to work hard for the title with a goal from Sergi Aragonés just four minutes from time finally breaking the resistance of opponents Reus Deportiu in the final.
The win means that the FC Barcelona roller hockey section have now claimed 14 Super Cup titles, this season's becoming the 138th trophy won by the section.
Even contest in the final
The game started as a close fought affair and that dynamic continues for almost the whole contest. A first half of few chances for either side was followed after the break by a second which saw the game open up ever so slightly.
David Cáceres' team started to create chances with Alabart and Seri Aragonés going close. Finally, the blaugranes found a way through as Alabart fed Sergi Aragonés to put Barça 1-0 up with just four minutes left. Reus desperately searched for the equaliser and hit the post in the closing minutes but Barça held on to claim a first trophy of the season.
A first for some but not for others
The Super Cup is the first trophy for new coach David Cáceres and his coaching staff as well new signings Ferran Font and match winner Sergi Aragonés. Pablo Alvárez picks up his 8th Super Cup title on his return to the club, still three behind the man who lifted the trophy on Sunday Sergi Fernández who now has 11 Super Cup titles, just two off the record held by Sergi Panadero.
