Barça Legends returning to Africa

Team appearing at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Ghana on November 10

Having already announced a forthcoming game in Qatar, the Barça Legends can now reveal that the first game of the season will be in Ghana against a selection of former stars from the country. The day is Sunday 10 November, the time is 3pm local time (5pm CEST), and the venue is the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, about 250 km from the capital city of Accra. The stadium is the biggest in the country, holding 40,500 people.

This will be the fifth Legends match on African soil. The first was in Mozambique in 2017, then Albert Ferrer and his men went to Morocco in 2019, and in 2023 they visited both Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Plenty of history

The players that the blaugrana veterans will be facing include the great Abedi Pelé, three time African Player of the Year (1991, 1992 and 1993) and best known for winning the Champions League in 1993 while with Olympique Marseilles; Asamoah Gyan, whose clubs included Modena, Udinese and Sunderland; and Stephan Appiah, who is well known in Italy for his time at Juventus, Parma, Bolonya and Udinese.

Albert Ferrer, coach of the Barça Legends, will be announcing his squad shortly and will be hoping to continue last season's brilliant form when his charges won all five of the games they played.

About the Barça Legends

The Barça Legends programme was created in 2016 and is managed directly by the club. The idea is to bring together former stars in a stable project that contributes to the globalisation of the Barça name around the world, thus offering a platform to foster the club's famous values.
