Hansi Flick: 'We must not be complacent'

German coach was speaking to the press ahead of the European clash against Young Boys

Speaking ahead of Tuesday's 9pm CEST kick-off against Young Boys, FC Barcelona coach Hansi Flick commented that although the Swiss side has not started their season very well, "we have seen that they have good players and that they are strong on the counter ... We will put out the best team we have ... We must not be complacent. We want to win the first three points.”

Indeed, although Young Boys lost their opening game against Aston Villa, Barça also suffered defeat at the hands of Monaco. That's a game that Flick says "we have to forget. In ten minutes everything changed. This game is at home. It’s different."

His team are also going into this fixture on the back of their first Liga defeat. “If you make a lot of mistakes, like against Osasuna, it’s harder to defend" said the German. "Precisely when the other team plays well on the counter, you have to reduce the mistakes." And Young Boys, he observes, are an especially dangerous team on the counter-attack, another reason to be cautious on Tuesday.

Flick also confirmed that Frenkie de Jong will finally be back in his squad after a long absence through injury. With Eric García suspended, he is short of options in midfield, so "if Frenkie gets the chance to play, he will. I don’t know if 45, 20 or 10. And it will be good for him, in my opinion. And it’s great news for us to have Frenkie in the team."
