Barça 91-65 Coviran Granada: First performance at the Palau
A win at the Palau is such a great way for Joan Peñarroya's new Barça side to start the Liga. It was a resounding victory too, comfortably overcoming Coviran Granada 91-65 to get the domestic competition off to a good start.
Parra starts well
The blaugranes were straight at it from the off, Joel Parra making the most of his start to score the first seven points of the game, and 10 in the first period. Allied with a great defence forcing turnovers, the lead began to grow nicely through the period, which ended 19-11.
Metu and Anderson introduce themselves to the Palau
Several players were set to make their mark at the Palau. Chimezie Metu was first with a 2+1 and a three-pointer that made it 31-15. Justin Anderson took on the baton with an outstanding alley oop plus foul, driving the Palau public wild, who were really enjoying their team's first half performance (43-21).
Peñarroya made his intentions quite clear in the second half, calling a time out after just 57 seconds after a 0-5 to ensure the effort was sustained. All the same, Granada became more effective from the three point line, clawing back the lead to 11 points (56-45). Justin Anderson then put the brakes on the visitors with a three-pointer to make it +14 at the end of the period (61-47).
Full power to the end
Metu flew through the air to finish an alley oop one-handed for a spectacular start to the fourth with Barça keeping the pedal to the floor to avoid any potential surprises. Metu was outstanding in the period and led the team in the final stages to a 91-65 win.
