Aitana: 'I dream about continuing to make history with Barça'

Aitana Bonmatí, from Sant Pere de Ribes, a town close to Barcelona, is Barça through and through. She grew up a fan and is still one even though now she is widely considered the best female player on the planet. A recent contract extension until 2028 means that the midfielder still has plenty to achieve at FC Barcelona and she explained her relationship with the club and her hopes for the future with the club's official streaming platform, Barça One. 

Continuing with the club was an important goal for the current Ballon d'Or holder. Aitana confesses a 'deep' connection with Barça and she is grateful for the chance to stay. "We have been able to reach an agreement, both parties worked hard and were respectful," admitted Bonmatí. 

In the interview she reflects on the influential figures in her career such as Johan Cruyff: "I wasn't able to meet him in person, but I am aware of his importance in the world of football and Barça. He changes the rules, both on and off the field. As a coach he implemented a model that Barça now uses at all ages. I am fortunate to be an ambassador for his Foundation." 

After having won everything there is to win with Barça and the Spanish national side, Aitana is still looking for more. She reveals that her "winning mentality" is what gets her out of bed every day wanting more, confessing, "the day it is not there then I will no longer be the player I am." The Barça Women midfielder is also aware of her role on and off the field: "I have a great responsibility, my voice can reach a lot of people and of course in some cases such as refugees, disadvantaged groups, the Catalan language or women's issues, I get involved." Not only the best player in world, but also an example to all and a blaugrana until 2028 at least.
