Real Madrid 89-83 Barça: Defeat at the end

A tight game from start to finish ends with the all-whites advancing to the Super Cup Final

Barça have been beaten by Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup. They had to play catch-up, managed to level the scores with a minute to go, but sadly this time it wasn't to be. Parker (17) and Brizuela (14) led the scoring.

The team now has to regroup from this defeat in time for the first game of the ACB regular season, next Sunday at the Palau Blaugrana against Coviran Granada (12.30pm CEST).

Following a tight start, an 8-0 streak with threes from Campazzo and Abalde gave Madrid the first meaningful lead of the game, and they built on that momentum to finish the first period +12.

But anyone who thought Barça were out of it was soon proved wrong. Three consecutive 3-pointers from Brizuela towards the end of the second period threw things way back open at 41-42.

The third period saw the pendulum swing back the other way. Big scores from Campazzo and Tavares re-established the 12-point difference and Barça were once again playing catch-up. And doing it well. By the end of the third period they had halved the deficit to six, and they started the final quarter with a 6-2 streak to get back to within two.

With a minute to go it was 80-80, and anyone's game. But two scores from Tavares and Campazzo proved to be the killer blow. The series of intentional fouls and free throws came to nothing, and Barça's Super cup bid dwindled to nothing.
