Kounde: 'It's not easy, but the aim is to win the Champions League'

The central defender outlined the blaugranes' objectives in the European competition and their preparations for this season's first game

Preceding the blaugrana coach in the press conference was Jules Koundé. The central defender explained that he "wants to compete in the Champions League and show his best". In fact, the Frenchman is convinced that "the chances of winning the game are much higher this time given the team's form coming into the game".

AS Monaco

The Champions League may be a different competition and the Gamper trophy defeat now in the past, but Kounde explained that he sees tomorrow's opponents as a "young, talented and physical team". It looks a tough game, but he is convinced that "Barça will put their best foot forward".

One of the keys to defeating AS Monaco is intensity. According to the centre back, this season has seen "Flick demand intensity the entire time and you can see it in the challenges". Furthermore, the Frenchman explained although he considers himself a central defender, he is happy with the challenge that comes with playing at right back, stating that "I have been improving ever since I was little. Wherever I play and whatever the circumstances are, it doesn't matter, I give my all to perform".

The new format and the objectives

"The format is more competitive, but it needs to be played to form an opinion". The centre back didn't provide a definitive answer regarding which Champions League format he prefers, but irrespective of how the competition is organised, he is clear that "Barça's aim is to win it".
