What you (may) not have noticed about Aitana's renewal photo
Aitana Bonmatí announced on Monday that she is staying at FC Barcelona until 2028. And the photograph of the player that was used to reveal the good news is absolutely packed with nods to her life and times at the club. How many of them did you spot?
Long-awaited news
In the picture, reproduced above, Aitana appears seated with a beaming smile on her face, and has her hand on a calendar showing the number 2028, in allusion to the year until which she is now officially staying at the club where she has spent her whole playing career.
Individual awards
Next to the calendar we can see the Ballon d'Or, regarded as the biggest individual accolade in the game and which was awarded to Aitana last year. But to her left on top of a little box there's also The Best 2024 award presented by FIFA, and to the left of that the Laureus 2023 prize for the world's best sportswoman. And on the floor, there's the UEFA Player of the Year trophy that she also won.

Team achievements
But more importantly, the image honours what Aitana has achieved with the team. We see one of the six Copas de la Reina that she's won, just behind the calendar, behind her there is one of her three Champions League and next to that one of her five Liga trophies. But there are other iconic images. On the wall there's a photo of the team that won Barça's first ever UWCL in 2020/21, another of the world record crowd that watched the women play at Spotify Camp Nou, and resting against the league trophy is a picture of Johan Cruyff and his number 14, the Barça legend whose number Aitana also chose to wear.
Strong message
But last but not least, in fact perhaps most importantly of all, there's the phrase that has followed her throughout her life: "Guanya o aprèn, no perdis mai" (Win or learn, you never lose), appearing in a image of the adult Aitana embracing her younger self. All in all, a photo that honours all the wonders that this amazing player has already achieved at Barça, and also the many more that are sure to come in the future.
