Agreement to extend Aitana Bonmatí's contract to 2028
History continues. FC Barcelona have agreed terms for Ballon d'Or holder Aitana Bonmatí to remain at the club until 30 June 2028, showing just how much faith the club has in a player who has been at the club for a long time.
At 2.14pm on Monday, the player put pen to paper in the company of her family, president Joan Laporta, the director responsible for women's football, Xavier Puig, and the sporting director of women's football, Marc Vivés.
The best player in the world is thus staying at a winning club. For Aitana is not only the holder of the Ballon d'Or but was also named European Player of the Year and the Laureus Best Sportswoman, among a host of other major accolades.
A crucial part of Pere Romeu's team, she scored in the UWCL Final last season in Bilbao, and is now the club's all-time top goalscorer and is tied with Alexia Putellas with the Champions League record of 22 goals.
Aitana has played 275 games for Barça, scoring 96 competitive goals, with her first century surely just around the corner. And she has won 23 different trophies in her time with the senior side, placing her eighth in the all-time ranking for most titles as a blaugrana.
Now that she has been confirmed as staying until 2028, that leaves plenty of time for her to collect more silverware and to help further substantiate Barça's place at the peak of the women's game.
Aitana is also an essential component of the Spanish national team, and was named MVP at the recent World Cup, where her team won the trophy for the very first time
