Unionistas 2-1 Barça Atlètic: Undone at the end

The development side take an early lead, but the home side come back to steal the points in the final minutes

A painful defeat for Barça Atlètic on their visit to Unionistas (2-1). Despite taking the lead with a second goal in two games by Toni Fernández, a second-half brace by Jonny Arriba sealed the win for the home side.

Super opening goal by Toni

The game began with both sides adopting a solid approach, and the home side had the first clear chance, an Eudald Vergés shot easily saved by Astralaga. The blaugranes soon struck, though, a neat move down the left between Landy and Ureña saw the Dominican Republic international cross for Toni Fernández to fire in a first time shot (0-1, min. 7).

Lead maintained

A second goal in two games for Barça Atlètic's youngest ever goalscorer and both were beauties. Unionistas went on the attack after the goal in search of an equaliser, cheered on by a crowd of 4,431. Astralaga was coming under fire with crosses from the flanks, but Barça Atlètic had the clearest chance, a classic move by Unai on the edge of the area made Iván Martínez fly towards the far post to prevent a second goal.

Unionistas continued to threaten, but Barça were defending well and the dynamic continued after half time when Cuenca stopped a certain equaliser on the goal line. Albert Sánchez decided to make some changes with Landry on a yellow card, replaced by Edu Sánchez, and Cédric coming on for a debut in place of Toni Fernández.

Tough blow at the end

The game seemed to be only going one way, however, Santamaria hit the bar, and corners and attacks were raining in on Astralaga's goal. The goal was coming and the blaugrana keeper couldn't do anything about Arriba's goal into the top corner (1-1, min. 74). This inspired the visitors, though, Pedro Soma and Barberà both with shots, and momentum swung even further with Mayor's red card.

A potential handball from the resulting free kick was claimed by Unai, but the referee thought otherwise, and just a few minutes later, an innocuos looking cross was anticipated by Arriba to complete his brace and the comeback. With no time to react, Barça Atlètic couldn't make it two wins in a week and the three points remained in Salamanca.
