Lamine Yamal, U23 player of the month for August
FC Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has been chosen as the best U23 player in August in the Spanish league, a monthly prize awarded by La Liga after an online vote by fans. The young blaugrana scored once and created four assists in his four appearances for Barça last month.
On the opening weekend of the season in the 2-1 away win at Valencia, Lamine Yamal created an assist for Robert Lewandowski's equaliser. At home in the win over Athletic Club in the Estadi Olímpic, the 17 year old opened his account with an excellent strike from the edge of the box to make it 1-0 in game Barça would go on to win 2-1. The Euro 2024 winner with Spain over the summer followed those performances up with three more assists in the 2-1 win over Rayo and 7-0 victory over Valladolid to bring his total to four.
Lamine Yamal has been a mainstay of the side in their run of four wins out of four in the league under new coach Hansi Flick, starting every game and playing almost every minute of Barça's season in La Liga so far.
Hansi Flick, coach of the month
There is a prize also for Barça's new coach Hansi Flick. The German has been named coach of the month by La Liga after his side maintained a 100% record in their opening four matches of the campaign, scoring 13 goals and conceding just three.
