Five basketball signings have their official presentation
The 2024/25 basketball season is almost upon us with the Barça squad having started preseason training on Thursday of last week. On Monday the focus was on the new arrivals as the signings were officially presented ahead of official competition at the Auditori 1899 at Spotify Camp Nou.
The five players, Kevin Punter, Justin Anderson, Juan Nuñez, Chimezie Metu and Youssoupha Fall, took part in the event along with president Joan Laporta, vice president Rafael Yuste, the board director responsbie for basketball, Josep Cubells and the manager of the section, Juan Carlos Navarro and coach Joan Peñarroya. The new arrivals spoke of their excitement at wearing the Barça jersey after opening workd from the president.
"A team to fall in love with"
President Laporta highlighted the "commitment shown by the coach and the five new signings in coming to the club." He continued: "Barça is a multi-sport club where basketball is one of the most important sections. They are five players who will form part of a team that the will fall in love with once again."
Josep Cubells also had praise for the new arrivals: "They are great signings, reference points and they will bring a lot to the team and more than a few surprises."
Young Juan Nuñez
Juan Nuñez comes to Barça with the aim of entertaining the fans. The young guard thanked the club for signing him and spoke of his desire to "return that commitment and confidence that they have shown in me."
"I want to be the top scorer"
US addition Kevin Punter explained that he is looking forward to playing at the Palau after his experience on the opposing team at the venue last season. "I was impressed with the atmosphere and now I want to become the team's top scorer." Fellow American Justin Anderson is also a new arrival at Barça and the versatile forward is clear about trying "to win everything with this fantastic team."
Metu excited to be at Barça
Another US import, Chimezie Metu, added his excitement about his first experience at European club. "I can only be happy at having this chance," added the power forward. Finally, Senegalese center Youssoupha Fall outlined what he hopes to bring to the team. "A lot of defence, intensity and the desire to win trophies," said the 2.22 metre man.
