Barça Women visit Alinghi Red Bull Racing

Meeting to exchange experiences and knowledge between footballers and sailors on navigation and simulation methodologies

Last October, the Barça women's football team played hosts at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper to the candidates for the America's Cup women's and youth competitions, which Barcelona is hosting this year together with the senior event, and now the hospitality has been returned as the footballers visited them at their base on Moll d’Espanya, in the Port Vell.

This was the first time the footballers had visited the home of Alinghi Red Bull Racing. Ingrid Engen, Fridolina Rolfö, Esmee Brugts and Ellie Roebuck were all there to watch how the sailing team operated their AC75. It was a wonderful opportunity for the athletes from two very different sports to exchange ideas, and ended with the chance for the Barça stars to have a go on the AC40 simulator.

Both sets of athletes compete at the very highest levels in their respective disciplines, and naturally had plenty to say to each other, and also about the impressive growth in recent years in women's sport in general. An extremely fruitful encounter ended with the exchange of gifts and a group photo session.

This meeting formed part of the activities that Alinghi Red Bull Racing has scheduled to forge a stronger bond with sporting talent locally and around the country. Naturally, the all-conquering women's football team who are based in the same city simply had to be part of that agenda.
