Marc Casadó: "Hansi Flick is very approachable"

The Barça's midfielder played a key role in the win over Manchester City and is putting in a big effort to secure maximum playing time

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland — Just over a month ago, on June 21, 2024, Marc Casadó extended his contract with FC Barcelona until 2028. Now, on this 2024 summer tour in the United States, the Catalonia native is proving he can be a valuable asset in the central midfield, as seen in the match against Manchester City. "I'm giving 100%, and I believe I have both the desire and the level," he says, eyeing more opportunities with the first team.

His new coach, Hansi Flick, whom Casadó frequently praises, will ultimately decide his role. "He’s highly approachable. We've felt it since day one, and he talks with us a lot. He's an excellent coach, and he works us hard both tactically and physically," Casadó says.

Xavi and Sergio Busquets: Casadó's role models

Casadó is an example of hard work and versatility. Last season, he also played as a right-back for Barça Atlètic, earning him the playful nickname "Kimmich," as in Bayern Munich's versatile Joshua Kimmich. Speaking from Annapolis, Casadó explains, "They say I look a bit like him physically, and since I also played as a right-back last season, they like to joke about it."

Despite his versatility, Casadó was born to play in the midfield. He sees Xavi and Sergio Busquets as role models and believes that Barça is where he belongs: "I've always loved watching Barça, especially style-wise and the way they move on the field."

He also shares a special connection with teammate Marc Bernal, with whom he has played both at Barça Atlètic and in pre-season friendlies against Olot and Manchester City. "We've been playing together for an entire season and feel very comfortable. We don't even need to talk; one look is enough for us to understand each other," Casadó adds.
