Hansi Flick: 'We defended and attacked as a team'

The FC Barcelona coach is 'happy' with his players' performance and their spirit in the win over Manchester City

The first game of the US tour of 2024 appeared a tough test for Hansi Flick's Barça side. Nevertheless, the blaugranes passed with flying colours as they defeated Pep Guardiola's team on penalties after a 2-2 draw over 90 minutes. After the contest, coach Hansi Flick showed himself to be more than happy with how the game went: "I am very happy with the team. We worked really hard and above all we defended and attacked as a team."

Defending and attacking as a unit was one of the key ideas mentioned repeatedly by the German coach. "All the players fought for their team mates and that is the most important key to success," he added.

Flick had praise for his opposite number Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City team as well as for his two goalkeepers, Iñaki Peña and Ander Astralaga. Nevertheless, the Barça boss was keen to avoid singling players out and stressed the excellent team performance above all else.
